With Smart Interaction, Samsung is literally changing how you can interact with the TV. You will be able to ‘listen, see and do’ what you want, without ever touching a remote control. The TV will be even more intuitive to your needs. You will be able to interact with your Samsung Smart TVs just like we interact with people, using voice, gestures and face. Take a look. The face recognition seamlessly logs in each family member to their own Smart Hub profile. You will see your apps. Your family members will see theirs. That’s just a taste of what is possible with our Smart Interaction technology. What’s more, we will open our APIs to developers so they can unleash their creativity and build apps that use motion control, voice control and face recognition. RGB+D

We wrote a few weeks back about the amazing artwork being done by the team at RGB+D. These hacker-slash-artists have combined Microsoft’s Kinect with a DSLR camera to create stunning photos and video that capture people through space and time in ways very different from a traditional film. The clip released today is a preview of a full length documentary featuring “hackers and media artists discussing culture, code and the future of visualization.” Check out the work by James George, Alexander Porter and Jonathan Minard below.

The RIM PlayBook by just received a developers update that adds some interesting new Android functionality to RIM’s tablet. This new version now supports Android apps running in their own windows, improving compatibility with the general Android app universe.

From Crackberry:

Improved HTML5 support Portrait support for Email, Calendar and Contacts Improved folder support including IMAP folder support Full device encryption is now supported, so that the whole device and personal partition can be secure. Screenshots are now saved in lossless PNG format. Each Android app will now run in its own window. This greatly improves the user experience and consistency among the other application runtimes. Access to the Camera hardware is now supported for Android apps, allowing many more application types to work on the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet. In-App Payment is now supported through the BlackBerry Payment SDK, so Android applications can include virtual items for sale in their applications.

This version is butting up against the incoming BB10 OS that will soon appear on phones and tablets, but, as the Verge notes, the BB10 PlayBook should be able to run apps written for previous OS versions.

Oddly, this version seems like a bit of a dead end but it’s nice to see Android functionality getting fleshed out more concretely.

MotoCzysz aims to refashion TAC Motors' Stark into an eco-friendly off-roader

Imagine barreling through the Amazonian rainforest with machetes flailing from the windows of your off-road rig, and just as you’re about to kick the vehicle into low gear, you pause to consider the impact of your vehicle’s exhaust (among other things) on the delicate ecosystem around. Fortunately for eco-minded folks, Portland-based EV manufacturer MotoCzysz — creator of the wicked E1pc electric motorcycle — plans to allay some of those concerns with its all-electric eStark SUV. For the basis of the vehicle, the company has turned to Brazilian auto manufacturer TAC Motors. The two partners will work together to integrate MotoCyzysz’s electric D1g1tal Dr1ve powertrain into otherwise diesel-thirsty Stark SUVs. Naturally, they’ll also need to fill it with a healthy battery pack, which’ll undoubtedly weigh down the otherwise plasticky carriage. Currently, the companies plan to manufacturer 3,600 eStark SUVs, which the partners hope to sell in Brazil and North America. Don’t count on taking the eStark onto the freeway anytime soon, though — the high cost of US safety certifications will likely keep this one away from city streets.

Galaxy S III internals and battery

That was fast: just a few days after the Galaxy S III reached buyers’ eager hands, Samsung has posted the phone’s source code. Its dutiful clinging to Google’s Android guidelines opens the floodgates to custom ROMs as well as a better sense of what makes Samsung’s Android 4.0 variant tick. As you’d anticipate, the code is only valid for the international GT-i9300 version. North American models, for the time being, are left out. Still, the source is useful for most anyone that wants to tinker with what should be the most ubiquitous Google-powered phone of the year, so get to downloading if that sounds like you.
