Question by Justin M: I need help getting started with a robotics project. Where do I get the stuff at?
I am wanting to put together a vehicle that will follow something. Are there any pre-assembled platforms out there that already have that together or where would you suggest getting parts to build one from scratch? Where do you suggest buying things such as motors, controls, ir/proximity sensors?

There are very many robot building, and kits available websites; and they range from beginner through experienced levels.
Many people who really want to get into robotics start by just buying a guide book. Also very popular is the Arduino boards; easy to learn and adapt to all sorts of projects.
Pre-built platforms exist. Find a copy of Nuts & Volts magazine, and you’ll see plenty of them in the advertising. (I can’t name one off-hand, because it’s been a while since I’ve done anything robotic. I’m in the industry.)
There are suppliers that cater to robotics enthusiasts. Check out what they’ve got. Here’s a few:

Jameco has robotics section too. http://www.jameco.com Jameco is more of an electronic component supplier (which comes handy too).
