There’s no denying that the Acer Aspire S7 is an attractive-looking machine. It’s a super-thin ultrabook with a 1080p display that rotates 180 degrees, and when we reviewed it, we found there was a lot to love. If you can look past the weak speakers, limited 4GB RAM, and pretty dismal battery life, the S7 is the perfect minimalist notebook.
One thing stopping us from overlooking the S7′s faults was its slightly high price tag — the 11.6-inch model launched at $ 1,199, while a fully-specced 13.3-inch machine would set you back $ 1,649 — but the Microsoft Store is running a promotion that takes care of that. Microsoft’s Windows RT-powered Surface has been… polarizing to say the least, leaving many a gadget fiend pondering the prospect of buying the more powerful Surface Pro instead.
The Redmond-based company has been keeping quiet when it came to the Pro’s more salient details, but Microsoft has finally come forward with some new info — the Surface Pro will be available in 64GB and 128GB models in January 2013, which will cost users $ 899 and $ 999, respectively.
Honestly, I’m looking forward to seeing just how much of that internal memory will actually be available to users from the get-go, especially considering how things played out on the RT version. If you’ll recall, users who picked up the base 32GB Surface RT ended up only ended up with about 16GB of free space, despite originally being assured that they would have closer to 20GB to play with.
As previously noted, both models will ship with a Surface pen for more precise touch input, but users looking for a faster way to bang out essays and angry missives may still want to purchase a Touch or Type Cover. Some of the Surface Pro’s other particulars have been public knowledge for a while now — it’s a bit heavier than the RT model (though still less than 2 lbs), but it packs an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 1080p display into that handsome VaporMG chassis. Other enhancements over the Surface RT include a full-size USB 3.0 port, a Mini DisplayPort jack, and (naturally) a beefier battery to run the show.
This is certainly a gutsy move for Microsoft — these price points put the Surface within striking distance of existing (not to mention well-reviewed) Windows 8 convertibles like the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga. As Gizmodo points out too, the price of a 64GB Surface Pro and a keyboard cover inches past that of an 11-inch MacBook Air, which may mean the Surface Pro could be left in a sort of no man’s land between lightweight laptops and more traditional tablets. Don’t get me wrong, I think the Surface Pro has a shot at success (I’ve grown rather fond of my own Surface RT), but we’ll soon see how the company’s hardware fortunes turn out.

Well, you knew the Lumia 800 would be coming to Microsoft’s chain of retail stores this month, but we bet you weren’t counting on an $ 899 price tag. That’s the word from our compadres at The Verge, who suggest that Nokia’s handset will initially be available only as a bundle, which is set to be up for grabs on February 14th. In addition to the unlocked Lumia 800, buyers with a whole lotta bravado will be able to demonstrate their love with the included Nokia Play 360 wireless speaker, a Purity HD Stereo Headset and an in-ear Bluetooth unit. We know that Nokia has a new conflict-free mineral policy and all, but for $ 899, you might just want to ask your sweetie if she’d prefer a diamond.

Microsoft will launch Nokia’s Lumia 800 device in the US as a special bundle item priced at $ 899. That’s the word from sources close to Microsoft’s Lumia launch plans, who have confirmed the bundle will include a Nokia Play 360 Wireless Speaker, Purity HD Stereo Headset, and an in-ear Bluetooth headset. Microsoft plans to launch the special bundle on February 14th and the Lumia 800 will not be made available separately, at least initially.
The Lumia 800 will be available unlocked from Microsoft’s retail stores, with no official carrier support, and will be aimed at Valentine’s Day and gift shoppers initially, as there are no proposals to offer the Lumia 800 outside of the bundle deal. It’s been a while since we first laid eyes upon this rugged little guy, but Motion Computing’s CL900 tablet is finally available for orders, starting at $ 899. Designed with enterprise markets in mind, the 2.1-pound Windows 7 slate runs on a 1.5GHz Intel Oak Trail Atom Z670 processor and rocks a 10.1-inch, 1366×768 multi-touch display that’s shielded in Corning Gorilla Glass. Seated atop that display is a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, with a 3.0-megapixel sensor keeping watch over the backside. Boasting a thickness of 15.5mm, the device also offers up to 2GB of RAM (along with a 30GB or 62GB SSD), promises a battery life of up to eight hours and houses a USB port, SD card slot and Bluetooth 3.0 module. For now, the CL900 is only available at select retailers, though Motion is selling peripherals and accessories directly from its site. Check out the source links for more details.

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard any news from the Adamo camp, but for those looking to blow a bit of that Santa cash on something thin and light, the timing here couldn’t possibly be better. Nearly 1.5 years after the 13-inch ultraportable was let loose — for $ 1,999 and up, no less — a new low-cost configuration has emerged at Dell’s website. These days, $ 899 gets you a 0.65-inch thick machine, complete with a 13.4-inch WLED display (1366 x 768 resolution), 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600 processor, a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium and 4GB of DDR3-800 memory. You’ll also get a 128GB SSD, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and a 40 WHr Lithium Polymer battery, and if you’re down for spending a bit more, you can grab an internal mobile broadband module as well. Or, you know, you could wait and see what kind of treasures CES brings. Your call.

Were you getting worried that Lenovo was going to pull another ThinkPad Edge 11 and forget to release that dapper IdeaPad U260 in the US of A? Well, set those worries aside — we just received word (or you know, a press release) that spills all the US pricing and availability details. That’s right, the world’s first laptop with a 12.5-inch display will be available starting November 15 (that’s this coming Monday) for a starting price of $ 899. But there’s more to the .7-inch / 3-pound U260 than it’s unique screen size — it’s got a glass touchpad option, a “breathable” chiclet keyboard for cooling, and it’s the company’s first “single piece design made of magnesium-aluminum alloy materials.” We don’t have details on what you get for the sub-$ 900 starting price, but the system is available with Core i3-380UM and Core i5-470UM processors, up to 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. We should be getting a closer look at this guy soon, but at least you have the weekend to peruse the pictures and press release below before deciding if you want to hit “Add To Cart” come Monday.

Looks like Kno kept to its “under $ 1,000″ MSRP promise, after all, and by more than just a penny. The company says its flagship tablet textbook is still on track for release by the end of this year — with limited available, at least — tagged at $ 899 for the original double-screen model and $ 599 for the single-screener.
