Images of Acer’s upcoming 8-inch Windows 8 tablet were leaked last month, but a fresh listing at Amazon has revealed some additional specifications and a potential price. Amazon lists Acer’s W3-810 tablet at $ 379.99 along with a dual-core 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8.1-inch 1280 x 800 display. Microsoft has previously hinted that 7- and 8-inch Windows brands were on the way, thanks to a tablet specification change, so this particular device fits those plans perfectly.

Amazon also lists 32GB of storage, 2-megapixel front and rear cameras, one micro USB 2.0 port, and a micro-HDMI port for Acer’s small Windows 8 machine. The tablet is said to weigh 1.1lbs and provide up to 8 hours of battery life. The alleged price…

There’s no denying that the Acer Aspire S7 is an attractive-looking machine. It’s a super-thin ultrabook with a 1080p display that rotates 180 degrees, and when we reviewed it, we found there was a lot to love. If you can look past the weak speakers, limited 4GB RAM, and pretty dismal battery life, the S7 is the perfect minimalist notebook.

One thing stopping us from overlooking the S7′s faults was its slightly high price tag — the 11.6-inch model launched at $ 1,199, while a fully-specced 13.3-inch machine would set you back $ 1,649 — but the Microsoft Store is running a promotion that takes care of that. You can now pick up the 11.6-inch S7 for just $ 899, while the Core i5 and Core i7 13.3-inch models will set you back $ 999 and…

How would you change Acers Iconia Tab a700

When we handed Acer’s Iconia Tab to our tame tablet reviewer, they were bewildered by its 1,920 x 1,200 display. While it may have been easy to use, quick and lovely to look at, it was also a bit on the hefty side, with its meager battery not helping. So then, six months down the line, we’re asking you to sound off about what you liked and loathed about this device, because we’re fairly sure the Acers of this world are listening.

Following in the footsteps of Microsoft — who leaned on the charms of Jessica Alba to help it promote the virtues of Windows Phone 8 — Acer has unveiled a new commercial for the Aspire S7 ultrabook starring Megan Fox. You’d hardly know it’s intended to sell the new Windows 8 laptop, however, since Megan owns most of the 90-second screen time, leaving the S7 to make only occasional cameos. It’s like the company constructed an awkwardly scripted mini-movie and decided to do some product placement in it.

While this latest ad may not be Acer’s finest moment, it’s intriguing to note that it’s part of a broader marketing campaign from the company, focusing on using well-known actors to promote its products. Acer has been angling to make a…

There’s no question that manufacturers are gearing up for Windows 8′s launch on October 26th with all different kinds of convertible laptops, but there will also be a more traditional route for getting a touchscreen laptop for the new OS: clamshell laptops with touch-enabled displays. Following their first unveil at IFA last month, Acer is now giving us some more information on its first entries into that market: the touch-equipped Aspire M5 ultrabook and thin-and-light Aspire V5 laptops.

The good news is that it looks like touch panels aren’t placing such a price premium on Windows 8 clamshells — the 14-inch M5 ultrabook with touch starts at $ 799.99, while the 14-inch V5 costs $ 749.99 and the 15.6-inch version cost $ 50 more. For…

Acer Iconia Tab A210 hits the FCC

Acer wasn’t divulging much about availability when we first caught sight of its Iconia Tab A210 at Computex last month (beyond a general “Q3″), but the 10-inch Android tablet has now at least cleared one hurdle on its way to a release. The device has just passed through the FCC, which could indicate that it’s headed for stores sooner rather than later. Unfortunately, there’s not much else to be found beyond the tablet’s label and a few test reports, so you’ll have to wait for a future filing if you were hoping for a peek inside the device — feel free to revisit our hands-on in the meantime.

Ivy Bridge might be the belle of the ball in laptop-land, but small and nimble will always be on the dance card, too. Despite its petite 11.6-inch 1366×768 screen and 2.6-pound frame, Acer’s newly announced Aspire One 725 can still pirouette with a dual-core C-60 AMD processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, Radeon HD 6290 graphics, and choice of two colors. Along with the 320 or 500GB hard drives and HD output, those specs should allow you to edit the odd video while still doing the emailing and surfing it was made for. Acer’s confirmed the unit will land in Europe in July for 359 euros, but stateside dates and price are still unknown. It’s not as flashy as those ingénues, but it should be a cheap, light date.

Remember the Acer W4? After seeing it at IFA 2011, it seems that it’s finally ready to make some first impressions, and its blind date is with France. Known officially as the Allegro, Acer’s inaugural Windows Phone isn’t going over the top in the spec department: it has a 3.6-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, 8GB internal storage, 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1,300mAh battery. However, a unique addition to this €299 ($ 425) device is a feature called Fast Charge, which allows the Allegro to get juiced up to 2.5 times faster than the rest of the company’s lineup. Expect the device to land in France in mid-November with two color options — white and dark blue iceberg. Just make sure, Acer, to walk your date all the way back home from dinner.

Ah, the pico projector. An idea that flourished if but for a moment, but never really hit that critical mass that CE companies yearn for. Evidently that matters not to Acer, who has decided to kick out two more for good measure. The downright diminutive C110 (seen above) is a DLP-powered beamer that gets all the juice it needs via USB, measures just 110- x 85- 25mm and offers up a WVGA (854 x 480) native resolution. The LED bulb is said to last up to 20,000 hours, and it’ll go from dead to dazzling in five seconds flat. Moving up a couple notches, there’s the C112 (pictured after the break), complete with an optional external battery (good for two hours, we’re told), a 1,000:1 contrast ratio and an identical WVGA resolution. Both of these guys are slated to hit UK shops at the end of the month, with prices set at £199 and £22, respectively.

Samsung’s beautiful-but-pricey Series 5 Chromebook too rich for your blood? Fear not, cloud-dwellers. Acer just announced that its Chromebook, dubbed the AC700, will go on sale in the states this month for $ 349.99, to be followed by a 3G-equipped version later this summer. If you’re part of the niche market that would happily live in Chrome OS in exchange for instant-on access, be advised that it runs on an Atom N570 processor and 2GB of RAM, and has 16GB of flash storage, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, two USB 2.0 ports, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader. We’ll be curious to see how the build quality compares to the Series 5′s, though for some people, that $ 70 price gulf will render that a moot point. PR after the break.
