In a real first for a GPS watch, Suunto has added a mapping feature to their Ambit smartwatch via a free update. The watch previously supported GPS tracking, waypoints, and training functions but this upgrade adds a live map to the mix, allowing hikers and runners to pinpoint their location on a trail or course.
From the Suunto website:With this update, users will be able to download routes online or input their own waypoints. Out on the trails, users will be able to see their route in real time, including their start point, position and the route ahead.
Another upcoming update will add Suunto foot pod and ANT+ accessory compatibility along with improved training instruments like interval timers. It will also support “community-crafted” features uploaded by users to Suunto’s support site.
This is a real first for these sorts of watches. First, this update is wildly compelling and that it comes free, after the watch has been on the market for a few months. The watch itself is pretty cool, as evidenced by this in-depth review and it’s fascinating that it can be upgraded via software to unlock new features.
The community features are also compelling in that they allow groups of people – runners, bikers, onanists – to upload various readout settings and programs. All of this, of course, inside a package the size of a silver dollar. The watch itself is $ 500 and these updates will be free at Movescount.com in September.Related Posts:
Zynga’s chief mobile officer David Ko said that the company has reached 22 million daily active users on mobile. If you consider that Zynga has about 53 million daily active users on Facebook, it’s a pretty strong sign that the company is diversifying on the Facebook platform (although we can’t deduplicate these figures for players who use Zynga games on multiple platforms).
On top of that, the company announced a new partners program that will let third-party developers reach its network. Atari, Phosphor Games, Crash Lab and others are initial partners.
“It’s easier than ever to create an app and yet harder than ever to find an audience,” Ko said. “We want to create an ecosystem with best-in-class mobile developers and best-in-class mobile games.”
Becoming a mobile gaming platform puts Zynga in more direct competition with gaming companies like GREE and DeNA, which have their own mobile gaming networks. This is not to mention the fact that Apple has its own Game Center and that Facebook is moving heavily into mobile app distribution too.
Ko also gave a look at a couple upcoming titles including a new Matching With Friends title, that should build on Words With Friends’ audience. He also said that Draw Something is nearing its 10 billionth drawing.Related Posts:
Question by boter_99: Are there any good, active, Robotics Clubs in Massachusetts? I have been interested in robotics for some time and would like to share thoughts and knowledge with others in my area. However there doesn’t seem to be many people out there.
Answer by DavidK93I’d suggest contacting MIT, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They have a strong robotics program, and may support a robotics club there.

Sony Ericsson is looking to start a bromance with the McTwist-loving, Double-Cork-landing, A-Frame-riding masses jonesing for a new Android device. The handset maker has announced a “global strategic alliance” with Billabong to launch the Xperia Active Billabong Edition smartphone in select markets. The handset will come preloaded with exclusive content, including Billabong screen savers, and bundle several Billabong-branded games and applications. As the two companies tell it, the Xperia ABE is the “ideal smartphone for extreme sports enthusiasts.” Accordingly, Sony Ericsson hardware is about to start making appearances at various “major” Billabong events. Unfortunately, this next bit is really going to harsh your mello: the hardware is identical to that of the Xperia Active announced back in June, complete with a single-core 1GHz processor, Gingerbread, a 3-inch Reality display and a five-megapixel shooter. Even with its no-so-extreme spec sheet, we give SE a gnar-lay for effort.
