According to Simple.TV, there have been articles circulating around the interwebs that may have caused confusion amongst parties interested about the shipping dates of its facile white puck. So, in order to induce some clarity, the folks behind the project have posted a Kickstarter update to let its backers know their Simple.TVs will be arriving soon — somewhere between October 10th and 15th, to be precise. On the other hand, Simple.TV is also set to start taking pre-orders on its website tomorrow from folks who missed out on the crowd-funded party, with these particular units estimated to ship “within 20 days” after the order has been placed. The good news is we’re only a couple of weeks away from its long-overdue arrival; in the meantime, however, don’t forget we have our own hands-on for you to graciously pore over.

Microsoft launched its 4GB Xbox 360 console with a Kinect for $ 99 early last month at its own Microsoft Stores across the US, but the company is expanding the deal to Best Buy and select GameStop stores later this month. The $ 99 deal requires a two-year subscription at $ 14.99 and comes with access to Xbox Live Gold. Microsoft describes the expansion to the new stores as the next part of its “pilot program” for the offer, limited in timing and numbers.
Those interested in the offer can cancel and return their console for a full refund within 30 days, though the first month’s subscription fee of $ 14.99 will not be refunded. There’s also an early termination fee for those wanting to cancel within the two-year subscription: $ 250 in months…

Samsung has announced its latest Windows Phone handset today, the Omnia M. Featuring a 1GHz processor, 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 4GB of storage, and just 384MB of RAM — the Omnia M appears to be Samsung’s latest low-end Windows Phone. The Korean manufacturer has also opted to include a 5-megapixel camera on the rear of the device and a VGA front facing camera for access to the company’s ChatON communications service.
Samsung’s Omnia M will ship with Windows Phone 7.5 in Europe initially, but the company says it will be rolled out to other regions too. There’s no word on pricing or an exact release date, but we’ve reached out to Samsung for more information. The Omnia M follows hot on the heels of Samsung’s recently announced Focus…

Though it officially launches in AT&T stores this coming Sunday, April 8th, the Lumia 900 was up for pre-order late last month — and we now have word from users in our forums that the phone is starting to show up. The 4.3-inch, LTE-enabled Windows Phone is an extraordinarily big deal for Microsoft and Nokia alike: Redmond is awaiting its first runaway blockbuster success for the platform here in the US, and Nokia is looking to make a smooth transition away from Symbian with as little pain as possible. AT&T appears to be taking the 900 pretty seriously, too — the carrier calls it “the smartphone everyone is talking about” on its official pre-order page.
Has the Lumia 900 arrived on your doorstep? Be sure to fill out a user review…

Intel’s Dave Salvator has been talking about Thunderbolt’s future, promising that optical versions of the high-speed interconnect will arrive this year. The copper version currently available is cheaper and can carry 10 watts of power, but it can only be run a maximum distance of six meters. While the fiber version loses the ability to power devices, it’s reportedly far faster and capable of running to the “tens of meters.” Dave Mr. Salvator wouldn’t commit to a release date, or how much more we’ll be expected to pay for the cables, but given that we’re also expecting to see PCI-Express 3.0 bolted on to the standard soon, we’ll start saving today.

Rumors about Microsoft’s successor to the Xbox 360 have been flying lately, but that doesn’t mean a release is imminent. In an interview with Le Point, Microsoft France marketing director Cedrick Delmas stated that it was “certain” there will be no new Xbox released this year. This lines up with recent reports that the as-of-yet unnamed new console would be launching late in 2013, with a GPU based on AMD’s 40nm Radeon 6000 architecture and perhaps even a Blu-ray drive. “The proof is that we haven’t price cut this year,” he told the paper (as translated by Eurogamer).
Competitor Nintendo is prepping to launch the new Wii U in the second half of 2012, but Microsoft appears to feel no pressure for an immediate refresh. “We’re not here to…

Nokia is returning to the Australian smartphone market with the introduction of the Lumia 800 Windows Phone in March. Optus, Telstra, and Vodafone will all stock the Lumia 800 in black, cyan, magenta, and white from March, alongside all major retailers. Nokia hasn’t announced pricing for Australia, but we’d expect to see competitive deals based on the previous Lumia launches in other countries.
The biggest news for Australians is the introduction of a white Lumia 800, although it’s not clear if the white is glossy (like the N9) or matte to match the rest of the Lumia 800 range. Nokia previously hinted that it is able to create yellow and white Lumia 800 colors, but the Finnish handset maker never indicated whether these would be made…

AT&T is slowly and steadily building up their portfolio of LTE-capable devices, and it looks like yet another has just broken cover. Due to be officially unveiled on January 8, the Pantech Element is AT&T’s newest LTE tablet, and is the first in AT&T’s lineup not to cost an absurd amount of money with a contract.
According to BGR, Pantech’s Honeycomb-powered tablet features an 8-inch display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor of unknown origin, and 16GB of internal storage. The Element also sports two cameras — a rear-facing 5-megapixel shooter with 1080p video capture, and a smaller 2-megapixel frontfacer for video calling and goofy self-portraits.
The Element is also meant to be one of AT&T’s more rugged offerings, touted as being “waterproof for real life.” You shouldn’t take that as carte blanche to take it for a swim though, as BGR reports that the Element can’t actually survive more than a splash on the face.
Strangely, also they mention that the Element has an IP57 waterproof rating, which actually means that the device would be capable of surviving submersion in up to 1m of water. I’m chalking that up to some crossed wires though, as AT&T is reportedly telling reps that it isn’t in fact a waterproof tablet.
At $ 299, the Element is an easier pill to swallow than either of AT&T’s previous LTE-friendly tablets. While the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the HTC Jetstream both come from bigger companies, they cost $ 479 and $ 599 respectively — more than a little ridiculous considering you’re signing a two-year contract on top of it.

Side-stepping the moody design tones of its RAZR brethren, Motorola has announced a new Android-powered smartphone for Taiwan. Measuring in at 9.8mm thin, this Gingerbread-powered slab sports the outfit’s MotoBlur-derived Moto Switch UI, with an eight megapixel camera on the back and a VGA shooter on the front. The XT615 packs quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900), WCDMA (900/2100) and HSPA (7.2Mbps) radios, while processing power comes from a slightly underwhelming 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7227A-0, possibly explaining the NTD$ 10,900 ($ 360) price tag. The pearly-toned phone hasn’t revealed any plans to leave the island nation of Taiwan just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t familiarize yourself with the full specifications in the PR below.
