This is another video from Rhett and Link featuring a handful of children performing a Star Trek themed middle school musical. Personally, I never participated in middle school musicals because, come on, that’s not what the cool kids were into. “You were never cast, were you?” Man, they wouldn’t even let me help build the sets. My little sister is always bragging about how she’s better than me because she keeps getting cast as the lead which is why I boo the entire time and throw poison ivy instead of roses.

This is the conceptual Star Wars Episode VII movie poster created by illustrator Adam Schickling imaging the cast from the original trilogy all grown up. It looks like Adam was pretty kind to Carrie Fisher, because that is NOT what I remember her looking like last. Chewbacca? He looks the same as the first day he and Han Solo ever met. Billy Dee Williams? That handsome devil makes me want to go chug an ice-cold Colt 45. WHICH I MIGHT.
Thanks to PYY, who agrees Colt 45 is actually pretty terrible but Billy Dee Williams makes it sound like the best damn drink on earth. That’s it, I’m biking to the beer store.
First the Lord of the Rings earrings, then the fingernail art, now a Portal engagement ring made by the folks at Custom Made — it really is turning into lady’s day on Geekologie. And you know what? I say we embrace it. Maybe later we can take turns putting makeup on each other and stay up late talking about boys! OMG, so you know that Billy in our English class? Whether or not it arrives at every US carrier simultaneously is up in the air, however, and there’s signs that Sprint’s model might not ship as quickly as we’d like. Carrier training documents obtained by iSource, which we’ve since verified are real, would require that sales staff and technicians all be ready to offer “in-store Apple support” on October 15th, wrapping up their earliest training by the 30th — that’s up to a month after the introductory event, which would reduce the chances of a simultaneous launch if the first wave of iPhone availability is as close as the rumors would have you believe. Before you start plotting a carrier switch out of impatience, we’ll add that there’s a few disclaimers at play. First is simply that October 15th is a Monday, which is very out of step with Apple’s habit of launching iPhones on Fridays. We’d see that day as the target for training alone, and that’s assuming that Sprint needs everyone on the same page before the iPhone is in stores. More importantly, we know from our own tips that Sprint’s internal calendar is in flux: the provider may not have concrete plans until after Apple’s executives leave the event stage next week. As such, we’d treat the document leak more as a heads-up than a guarantee of trouble in Sprint’s schedule.

The microphone in the iPhone 4S is pretty good — I have found it to capture excellent quality on all my consumer-ish recordings and videos. Of course, that is not to say it could not be improved.
When the iRig MIC Cast was announced at CES this year, I was pretty excited. I have gotten a lot of use out of the original iRig MIC and this miniaturized version seemed poised to make my travel recordings an even more portable affair.
Thankfully, it did not disappoint. The mic’s dual gain setting really extended the abilities of my iPhone for my consumer Video/Audio recordings, which is especially impressive considering the microphone is about the size of a half dollar. The new iRig also comes with a desktop stand to prop my phone while I’m recording, and I while didn’t use it too often, it could definitely come in handy for sit-down interviews and the like. Oh, and in case you felt some weird urge to do so, it works just fine when taking phone calls too.
While I am not sure what other non-iOS devices are actually supported, I was able to get it to work with things like the Korg Kaossilator 2 — a nifty bonus for sure.
What can I say, I am a fan of this little gadget in all of it’s portable glory. It’s shipping today and costs $ 39.99/€29.99. More info at www.irigmiccast.com

Looks like that plan to bring NFL content Verizon tablets is on hold, at least for now — we just got Big Red’s employee training materials for the Samsung Galaxy Tab, and they explicitly say that Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile, and V Cast Video won’t be available on the seven-inch tablet at launch. That’s disappointing for a variety of reasons — particularly the loss of Skype, which would have made up for the lack of voice calling ability — but we’re hoping the holdup is mostly due to app-compatibility issues and not corporate politics.
