Fuji Electric Retail Systems Co. is no stranger to flipping coins for profit, thanks to a robust lineup of vending machines such as the A011. The Japanese company, however, has also branched out from dispensing hot and cold drinks for change by supplementing its offerings with a different kind of juice. Meet the FRCM00CK — the industry’s first coin-operated fast charger for electric vehicles, according to Fuji Electric. The charger measures 300mm wide, 400mm deep, 1,210mm tall and tips the scale at 41 kilograms. It also doesn’t take paper currency, limiting its appetite to coins in ¥10, ¥50, ¥100 and ¥500 denominations. The machine’s product page doesn’t give specifics about how long it takes to charge vehicles but says it can provide a maximum charging time of 60 minutes. Incidentally, Fuji Electric’s US site states that its FRC series of EV chargers can completely power up a 25 kWh electric vehicle battery in about 60 minutes. The coin-operated charger will cost ¥600,000 or about $ 7,600 and is slated for a 2012 release. Some may argue that it doesn’t have quite the geek cool of the Roto-A-Matic or the WiFi vending machine. Still, the FRCM00CK is decidedly more electric.

We may well have seen the next iPhone’s back shell, front panel, SIM tray and even its cabling. Why not round it out with what might be the motherboard? A WeiPhone forum goer who slipped out the iPhone 4S’ board last year is back with the 2012 update’s potential new heart. While the tipster hasn’t been courteous enough to do a side-by-side with the older component, repair shop iDeviceGuys notes to 9to5 Mac that the newer part isn’t just a carbon copy; that smaller SIM slot (what you see in the middle) is one of the bigger giveaways. The real treat may be the extra wireless antenna connections. They aren’t any surefire signs of 4G, but the antenna links suggest Apple isn’t content with what the iPhone 4S has to offer. We’re mostly left wondering about what’s under that shielding — it’s a mystery as to whether or not the next iPhone’s processor speed bump is a mountain or a molehill. Barring one more peek, we could get the full scoop next month.

App updates are always nice, right? Well, if you’re an avid user of Kobo’s intellectual offerings on Android handsets and slates, you’ll be happy to know the all-things-eReader service has rolled out a fresh update to its eBooks application. Most notably, this new version brings support for an array of new languages within the app, such as French, Italian, Dutch, German and Spanish. That’s not it, however, and in addition to gaining a “multi-language experience,” Kobo’s eBooks application now also offers an in-book progress indicator, a two-page landscape view for folks using tablets and the ability to share current readings with friends on Facebook or Kobo Pulse. As usual, you’ll find the refreshed goods inside Google’s Play store, link for that is down below.

Related Posts:Aftermarket keyboard layouts are still relatively rare among tablets, which makes KeyPoint Technologies’ new Adaptxt beta for Android tablets that much more valuable. Along with optionally splitting up the keyboard to make thumb typing that much gentler, it expands on the stock keyboard formula with aggressive word prediction and shortcuts for words or whole sentences. The wait for a tablet version has also rewarded the patient with a handwriting recognition extra, just in case they’d like to revive cursive writing as an art form. The beta is is free to use for anyone who’s running at least Android 2.3 on a big-screened slate, although only for a “limited period” — if you’re willing to accept a few rough edges, we’d recommend hitting the source links before there’s a price tag attached.

Because the internet is drier than dry cat food, here’s a video of Milo the cat beating the shit out of his automatic cat feeder to get it to drop some extra fish-shaped kibble. Mmmm, the fish shapes are my favorite too.
We have two cats, Milo (tabby) and Max (black). They are one year old brothers from the same litter. Milo is a big fan of the dry food, Max not so much. Despite the fact that their automatic feeder drops food 3 times daily, Milo smashes into it with his front paws 20-30 times each day in order to knock out some extra snacks. Max has never smashed the feeder.
See? And you all thought I was crazy for pounding on my computer every time the internet goes out. “But Milo actually gets something for his effort — banging on your computer doesn’t do anything.” Yes it does too! “What?” Makes me feel good.
Hit the jump for the clever cat in action, bonus slap-fight midway through.
