Microsoft is gearing up to market Nokia’s upcoming Verizon flagship heavily. Sources familiar with Nokia’s plans have revealed to The Verge that the company plans to launch its Lumia 928 handset in April on Verizon. Known previously as Laser, the Lumia 920 variant will include some significant changes that make it a new standalone device. Microsoft has started to roll out two security updates today to address vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The first fixes a critical vulnerability in versions 7 and 8 of Internet Explorer on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Microsoft has reversed its decision to wait to patch critical vulnerabilities in Flash for Internet Explorer 10, and will release an update sooner than previously announced, according to ZDNet. The company’s decision to integrate Flash directly into Internet Explorer 10 means that even though Adobe patched several vulnerabilities in the service last month, testers using the program remain at risk until Microsoft patches the software. Last week Microsoft said that an update would not be released until the public launch of Windows 8, but today Microsoft’s director of trustworthy computing Yunsun Wee told ZDNet that the update will come “shortly,” and another source said it may even be released “before the end of next week.”
Microsoft has just announced that it will be providing security patches for the Windows 8 IE10-specific version of Flash, despite the software giant initially suggesting it wouldn’t. The patch will be available “shortly,” and hints at a return to the update cycles of old. More significantly, as ZDNet points out, unless Microsoft coordinates these releases with Adobe, there could be a constant cycle of IE10 being vulnerable in the future. On a positive note, the fix should be released before Windows 8 goes prime time, but for those who jumped on board early, you might want to keep one eye locked on the update page, and get it when it lands.
