Google is about to throw down. At next week’s NYC Android event, the big G is expected yell “me too!” and reveal a full line of Nexus devices. Watch out, Mr. Consumer. These devices aren’t just for the nerds. Google is ready to take the Nexus brand mainstream and provide legitimate alternatives to the iPhones, iPads and Galaxy devices of the world.
Nexus 4Despite the name, this is not a 4-inch device. The Nexus 4 is the fourth Nexus smartphone, which appears to have a 4.7-inch 1280×768 resolution screen. The LG-made phone, with all its specs, was outed by UK phone retailer Carphone Warehouse (leak product page is not available). It’s said to pack a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and runs Android 4.2. Inside the 9.1mm thin body resides NFC, 8MP camera, and 8GB of storage.
No word on US pricing but it could be relatively inexpensive. Carphone Warehouse lists the SIM-Free version of the phone at £389.95; the SIM-free Galaxy S III is £499.
Nexus 7The little $ 199 Asus Nexus 7 tablet is a hot seller and Google seems ready with new versions. A 3G version was recently revealed by the FCC database, which lists the tablet with WiFi and HSPA+ (3G) capabilities. The tablet is expected to have 32GB of onboard storage, but that spec is not listed in the FCC documents.
Google is also expected to discontinue the 8GB version, drop the price on the 16GB N7 and release a 32GB WiFi-only Nexus 7. This is Google’s answer to the iPad mini.
Nexus 10The Samsung-made Nexus 10 could be next week’s big announcement. At this point its existence is nearly confirmed thanks to a leaked user manual and sample pics from Google’s own Vic Gundotra. The tablet is rumored to have a 10.1-inch screen like Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10.1. The leaked manual indicates it will sport the standard assortments of ports and cameras including microUSB, micoHDMI, and dual-cams — no microSD card slot, though.
There are still a lot of unknowns with the Nexus 10. Will it undercut the iPad with a cutthroat price. Will it be available with 4G? Will the screen have a PPI higher than the new iPad?
The Google invite states “The playground is open.” And with three new toys all but confirmed, there will certainly be a lot to keep Android fans entertained through the holidays and into the new year.
Talk about building up the tension! Yep, our favorite Austrian daredevil is back out on the New Mexico desert, hoping the weather will hold, and he can finally fall into the record books. Weather may have delayed Felix Baumgartner’s record-breaking “space dive” by another (no doubt torturous) 24 hours, but all going well, the wait is almost over. In just over an hour, proceedings will kick off, and you can watch them live, right here. The latest reports indicated that conditions remain favorable, with the team sending a weather balloon up into the stratosphere earlier this morning. The fun begins at 8:30am eastern, but all you need to do is grab a coffee then head past the break for the live feed.

The Nintendo Wii U launches on November 18 with the support of 23 games. Nintendo stated previously that there would be 50 available before March 31, so, relatively so, the Wii U is launching with a strong amount of games including New Super Mario Bros U, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and, yes, Nintendo Land, the game Nintendo hopes will be the Wii Sports of its new console (it won’t).
Nintendo revealed and demoed many of these titles at its E3 2012 press conference. Nintendo Land is a strange consortium of mini games and social elements. The company stated over and over again that the title is the Wii U’s Wii Sports, but after seeing the presentation and playing some of the games on the show floor, we’re not convinced it has the same magic.
Many of the titles below showcase the Wii U’s novel touchscreen controller. By building in a secondary screen, the Wii U controller can act like a backpack in an RPG, gun sight in a FPS or a playbook for sports games.
The Wii U will come in two versions. The basic version will cost $ 299 and comes packing the Wii U controller and a console with 8GB storage. Or, buyers can opt for the $ 349 Deluxe Set, which includes 32GB of local storage, a Wii U controller charging cradle, Wii U console stand and a copy of Nintendo Land.

The next iPhone has already leaked out in almost every way, shape and form, yet new images continue to surface. This time, we’re allegedly seeing the most complete view of the next iPhone to date, including what appears to be an NFC chip.
Macotakara seems pretty confident in identifying the square component, with an EMI covering, as an NFC sensor. There are a few bits of evidence here that seem to match up.
For one, these photos were leaked from the same Photobucket account as those leaked front casing pics we saw back in Mid-July. These images, both the earlier, more bare-bones pictures of the front casing and these further assembled pictures, also match up with images leaked from other sources.
Secondly, pictures published by iLab (the ones that supposedly capture a fully assembled iPhone 5) seem to have an empty space next to the now-centered FaceTime camera, meant to house a sensor. Based on this latest leak, it would appear that much-awaited NFC will fill that hole.
Apple’s traditionally been great at keeping its forthcoming products under wraps, but this pre-iPhone season has been particularly fruitful. If we take all the evidence provided and pair it up with common sense, NFC seems like a very real possibility. Sure, Apple normally waits until new technology has been proven by its competitors, but NFC-equipped phones have been on the market for a while, namely Apple’s greatest competition, the Samsung Galaxy S III.
With the inclusion of Passbook in iOS 6, I feel comfortable believing that Apple will implement NFC come September 21. Along with the rumored 4-inch screen (which feels all but confirmed), the strange two-tone back panel, and the new mini-dock, it would seem that this should be one of the more transformed iPhone models ever.
