Airbnb’s Android app just scored a significant refresh, including some major design tweaks and additional tools for hosts. Version 2.0 adds two features that should make it easier for property managers to interact with guests efficiently, including the ability to update calendar availability and pre-approve users from any compatible Android handset — that latter feature hit the iOS app in December. There are also quite a few bug fixes in tow, according to the release notes — push notifications should now be working, for example. The focus here is on host usability, however. According to a TechCrunch report, only five percent of hosts current use the Android app, and while these additions should streamline operation, they’re unlikely to account for a major shift from the web interface.

Question by kevinvw2000: How to build robotic servo with standard Radio Controlled (R/C) interface? Does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to build high torque robotic servo. I have purchased the most powerful R/C servos available and need more torque and travel. So I’m looking at building my own from scratch. I basically need it to function like a regular R/C servo but with much more torque and travel and it needs to plug into a standard R/C receiver. Thanks, Kevin.
Answer by craftmakeroneThere is a magazine I found at the Barnes & Nobel bookstore about making robots. It’s called SERVO. It’s a nice and informative magazine. My son totally enjoyed it.

Microsoft has revealed its Xbox Music service pricing through the Windows 8 Music app, at the same time as pushing out a beta Xbox dashboard update that gives testers a chance to try out the on-console interface. The service, which has yet to be fully unveiled, will offer unlimited streaming for £8.99 per month — the same price as a British Zune Pass — or £89.90 per year. We expect US pricing to mirror the UK’s in matching the current Zune Pass pricing. To use the service on Xbox, you’ll need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription. A forum post on NeoGAF has also revealed that Xbox Music will offer a free advert-supported service similar to Spotify, along with a scan-and-match locker service — something we’ve independently…

MasterCard has been in the cashless payment game for quite a while, and now it’s hoping to get more developers on the PayPass bandwagon with its freshly unveiled user interface software development kit. By leveraging the SDK, programmers will be able to bake the firm’s NFC payment system, which is compatible with over 70 handsets, into their own Android or BlackBerry OS 7 apps. The kit is free to license and includes API code libraries, documentation, a developer guide, sample code, a white-label reference application and a testing suite. Once apps are created with the SDK, they’ll have to go through MasterCard’s approval process before they go live. Yearning to code PayPass-enabled smartphone software? LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. It can be used to display anything (virtually anything!). They are of many types. The ones we commonly use for embedded systems, robotics, etc are of two types — character LCD and graphical LCD. We will discuss about character LCDs in this post whereas graphical LCDs will be discussed later. The most popular type of character LCD is the HD44780 Character LCD. In this post, we will be using the JHD 162A character LCD shown below. JHD 162A Character LCD The JHD 162A LCD is fully compatible with the HD44780 LCD. Hence, the same set of codes will work for both. It is a 16×2 LCD module ie it has 16 columns and 2 rows for display. It can operate in either 8 bit mode or 4 bit mode. In 8 bit mode, an 8 bit is data is sent to the LCD from the MCU whereas in 4 bit mode, 4 bits of data are sufficient to operate it. It has 16 pins, the details of which is given below: JHD 162A Pin Configuration Now, for the LCD to work in 8 bit mode, it requires the 8 data pins (DB0…DB7) and 3 control pins (RS, R/W, EN) whereas in 4 bit mode, it requires 4 data pins (DB4…DB7, only the upper nibble) and 3 control pins (RS, R/W, EN). Though the 8 bit mode is faster and more accurate, it consumes more pins of the MCU. However, the 4 bit mode is also fast and accurate enough to satisfy most of our need, plus it requires only 7 pins for interfacing. Hence, we will be working in the 4 bit mode. In the 4 bit mode, data pins DB0…DB3 are left open. Interfacing LCD … Video Rating: 0 / 5Related Posts:
Microsoft appears to be readying a new version of Skype that’s designed for the new Windows 8 interface. An image of the Skype Metro style app leaked to Twitter this week, showing how Microsoft has optimized its voice and video calling service for upcoming Windows 8 and Windows RT tablets. The new version of Skype matches existing Metro style apps from Microsoft and uses a sidebar to display status and message history.
The application is clearly marked as “App Preview” in screenshots posted by Neowin — indicating that Microsoft may be preparing to release a public preview version shortly or it’s in the middle of a beta testing phase internally. Other features include the ability to initiate voice and video calls, pinned favorites, and…
