Apple’s iPod touch is arguably among the last of a dying breed, being a standalone media player that isn’t also a phone. But just because you’re among a species on the verge of extinction doesn’t mean you can’t shine, and the 5th generation iPod touch brings a lot of goodness to the table for a connected mobile device that can’t call anyone.Long Version Features:
- Thin (~20 percent thinner than iPhone 5), weighs just 88 grams
- Crazy loop strap thing for wristband, or your cellphone charm, if that’s how you roll
- Much-improved camera
- 4-inch Retina display
- Available: Now (Ships in 1-3 business days)
- MSRP: Starts at $ 299
- Product page
… still easily the best media player out there, and now a much more capable mobile gaming device thanks to the introduction of the dual-core A5 chip that powers it. And with the new, super thin design, it’s actually the most portable iPod touch, despite the screen size increase.Buy the iPod touch for…
… kids, or anyone who wants a dedicated media and game player that’s more portable than the similarly priced iPad mini. Also good for users who are on Android or BlackBerry for their primary phone, but want to test the waters of Apple’s iOS ecosystem. Apple knows full well that the audience for dedicated media players is dwindling, but this iPod touch was tailor-made for the niche audiences to whom it still appeals.Because…
… the design is so impressive, I actually find myself wishing this was the latest iPhone from time to time. It isn’t without its drawbacks: the ultra-thin case meant Apple had to leave out the ambient light sensor that adjusts screen brightness automatically, which is a shame because Apple devices are among the few that get this feature right. But honestly, if you’re looking for a media player, and you also want a ton of great apps, there’s really no contest here.Related Posts:
Last time we checked in with Apple’s ongoing court battle with Samsung in the upcoming Galaxy Nexus case, which will be tried by the same court that awarded Apple $ 1.05 billion in damages this past summer, Apple was adding the latest Samsung devices to the suit. Now Samsung has responded in kind, adding the iPad mini, 4th generation iPad and 5th generation iPod touch to the mix.
Samsung’s additions shouldn’t come as a surprise; when a judge ruled that Apple was indeed allowed to add Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as it pertains to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, as well as the Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy S III to the proceedings, he specifically warned that in granting that alteration, Apple should be prepared for return amendments from Samsung. Specifically, he said that the iPad mini and latest iPad were likely additions. The end of this week, November 23, is the deadline for any new additions to the lawsuit, so the timing on Samsung’s part is not surprising.
Samsung had also previously moved to have the iPhone 5 added to the filing, and that motion was successful. This time around, the basis for adding Apple’s latest devices is the same: Samsung claims they infringe two UMTS wireless patents in the cellular variants, as well as patents related to features both cellular and Wi-Fi versions of Apple’s newest tablets and media player. The patent which affects the iPod touch specifically deals with volume control mechanisms on a portable media playing device.
The deadline for amendments to filings in this case is tomorrow, so theoretically we could still Apple try to sneak in a return shot. But even if nothing else changes in the line-up of devices being tried, this trial isn’t set to be decided until 2014, so there’s still a while to wait before any outcome is forthcoming.Related Posts:
Question by Evey: what are the advantages and disadvantages between an Ipod and a Zune? i was kind of thinking of getting an ipod touch but then i heard that a zune was better. i just would like to know the differences between them. what one do you think i should get?
Answer by JasonApps The apple ipod touch has a massive app data base but in the long run may not compare to what the zune offers in terms of apps. microsoft has not released their app store yet and will be in the next few months with the release of windows mobile 7. The Zune has a NVIDIA graphics card and this is something that is essential for the upcoming app database coming. Now the music. The itunes store has been selling music for a very long time but still hasn’t shaken the DRM (digital rights management) yet. Zune hasn’t either but there is news that the zune software will not have DRM restrictions. Itunes sells music for anywhere from $ .99 to $ 1.29 per song. But zune sells each song for $ .99. Also there is another option for the Zune software. There is a Zune pass which is 10 song you keep for life each month and then unlimited downloads of each song as long as you are subscribed to Zune Pass. This is 15$ a month and is a great deal for the people who listen to a lot of music.
The Zune Hd is a better choice because of the cheapness of the music and how sleek the design is. if you buy directly from zune.net you can personalize the zune to have a graphic engraved and choose the from numerous colors. You can also engrave you name into it all for free. Now the ipon touch only comes in two colors Platinium and Black. you can also engrave only two small lines on the back. The zune has a much clearer screen with the new OLED technology. Ipod touch has only a LCD screen making it not as clear. I highly recomend the Zune HD

Question by Tyler: What do you think Apple will add to the iPod touch 3rd Generation? Do you think/know they’ll add those white/black backs the current iPhones have? Do you think they’ll add a camera, microphone?
Answer by TomNo, because those white/black backs are plastic, and cheaper, and I for one, along with quite a lot of others I’m sure would prefer the old, metal back. No, because if they added those things they’d be taking sales away from their iPhones. I’m guessing OLED screen and better speaker.

Freemium wireless Internet startup FreedomPop made good on its word by kicking off its public beta earlier this month and hocking USB modems and mobile hotspots, but that launch left many of its would-be users asking one question: Where are the iPhone and iPod touch cases the company unveiled all those months ago?
Well, that wait is over… for some people, anyway. FreedomPop has just announced that its WiMAX-capable iPod touch cases are now shipping, and will set potential users back a cool $ 99 should they decide to take the plunge.
For that $ 99, users get a plump piece of molded plastic (expect it to bring your iPod up to the size of an iPhone 3GS) that should convert that WiMAX signal to Wi-Fi for between six and eight hours before needing a recharge. As always, FreedomPop users start out with a free monthly data allotment of 500MB, and can score even more data by shelling out for a monthly data plan or forging social connections with other FreedomPop users.
FreedomPop’s plans to monetize the service actually extend beyond that seemingly simple approach with value-added features like the ability to pay extra to ensure the best data speeds, though it’s what’s on the horizon that has the potential to really change the game. Persistent rumors eventually gave way to confirmation that the fledgling company was looking to launch its own VoIP app to further blur the line between iPod touches and honest-to-goodness iPhones.
It doesn’t sound like a bad deal at all— especially for the younger set who can neither afford nor qualify for a more standard wireless data contract — but there are some caveats. To wit: the iPod sleeve is only officially compatible with the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touches. And of course there’s the coverage issue to contend with, since network partner Clearwire doesn’t have the biggest wireless footprint in the world (though the company will eventually push out hardware that plays nice with Sprint’s 3G and LTE networks).
Meanwhile, iPhone owners still a bit of a wait ahead of them before they get their crack at free WiMAX data — that same source told TechCrunch that those devices are “in the final stages of production,” with pre-ordered units going out to the service’s earlier adopters over the coming weeks. After that, FreedomPop expects to “officially launch” the iPhone case to the masses by the end of November, a move that reportedly involves some key retail deals that should see the sleeves onto a “major online retailer’s” virtual shelves in time for the holidays.Related Posts:
