Buy “HP TouchPad Wi-Fi 16 GB 9.7-Inch Tablet Computer” – detuv.com Another tablet is getting the newest version of Android, but it’s not one you’d expect. In fact, it’s not even a tablet that was built to run Google’s mobile operating system in the first place. As those without a Nexus 7 7.49 at Amazon Marketplace or Motorola Xoom await their upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it’s Hewlett-Packard’s discontinued, webOS-based TouchPad that’s getting an unofficial but nevertheless real injection of confectionary Android 4.1 goodness. Before Android tablet users pitch a fit, it’s worth noting that the unofficial port of CyanogenMod 10 (CM10) for the TouchPad put together by XDA Developers member Jcsullins has “plenty of gaps in functionality,” SlashGear reported Friday. That may be a bit of an understatement. “Hardware video and graphics acceleration aren’t functional, and neither is audio. The front-facing camera doesn’t work, and neither does the microphone,” the tech site elaborated after getting a peek at Liliputing’s review of the Jelly Bean port for the TouchPad and accompanying video (below). That’s a lot of functionality gappage, but SlashGear reckoned the CM10 port will improve with time. For now, Jelly Bean for the TouchPad offers decent Web browsing and email, albeit without sound or very good video playback. One issue some users of the mod are reporting is wonky battery charging on their TouchPads, but that doesn’t appear to be the case with all ports. Last … Video Rating: 2 / 5
Related Posts:As usual, Apple thought Friday night on a holiday weekend was the perfect time to push some more paper through in its ongoing patent lawsuit against Samsung. According to Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents, after Samsung asked to add the latest iPads, iPhones and iPod touches to its list of claims and the court approved the addition of the iPhone 5, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note 10.1, Apple is trying to put six more devices on the list. Listed in the motion are the Galaxy S III running Android Jelly Bean (but not Jelly Bean itself), Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Rugby Pro and Galaxy S III mini. As usual, the case will proceed, we’ll wait to hear if these requests are approved by the court and in the meantime, iThings and Galaxys alike will continue to fly off the shelves. Given the season, for now it’s time to be thankful we’re not one of the lawyers spending their day working on this. That leaves us plenty of time for more interesting activities, like hand-to-hand combat against fellow shoppers for the right to purchase slightly discounted items.

Related Posts:Good news for fans of Android alternatives: Google’s just added binaries for Jelly Bean 4.2 to AOSP. Up until now, only the Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 had been privy to the company’s latest OS version bump, but with the presence of these files on its developer portal, custom ROMs are just now a stone’s skip away. Curiously, Mountain View has omitted the Nexus 4 from the list, but devs willing to get their hands dirty with the Nexuses 7 and 10, as well as both variants of the Galaxy Nexus — yes, Verizon’s is on the list — can have at it right now at the source link below.

Related Posts:The very first CyanogenMod 10 builds surfaced while Jelly Bean was still extremely fresh in our memories. The passions around Google’s new OS might have cooled months down the road, but that doesn’t diminish the impact now that the first stable CM10 builds are here. Four (relatively) safe versions have arrived for devices that are either just getting their official Android 4.1 builds or were never destined to get one in the first place: support for the Samsung Galaxy S III in Sprint and Verizon editions is a natural fit, but both the LG Optimus Black and Samsung’s Galaxy S II Skyrocket are making their own unofficial leaps. More devices should be coming down the road once any teething bugs are ironed out. You’re still taking your own risks by going with a custom ROM, but it may be worthwhile for CM10 if perks like a root-friendly file manager or an expanded desktop are too tempting.

Apple is hoping to add Samsung’s latest tablet, the Galaxy Note 10.1, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to a list of product it claims infringe its patents in an existing court case in California, Bloomberg reports. The arguments supporting these additions were made in federal court in San Jose today, and follow Samsung’s expressed intent to add the iPhone 5 its own infringement claims in the same proceedings.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 is Samsung’s latest self-branded tablet, though the manufacturer has been tapped to provide hardware for Google’s Nexus 10 slate as well. The Jelly Been update is the version of Google’s Android OS that powers the Note, thus its inclusion in this suit, which is slated currently for a 2014 trial date.
Obviously we’re not looking at a draw down situation here, as both sides in the case seem eager to make sure device lists are updated to include the latest from each side. Apple won a preliminary order in this case blocking the sale of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the U.S., and added the Galaxy S III to the list of products it says are infringing its IP in August. In October, Judge Lucy Koh rescinded a previous injunction against the Galaxy Tab 10.1, an earlier 10-inch tablet from Samsung, in a separate proceeding in the same court.
For any action resulting from these proceedings to have teeth, they really need to apply to current products, and given that the trial date isn’t for over a year yet, expect to see more devices named by both parties in the interim as additional hardware is released.
