While I don’t often hold stock in random pronouncements by magazines, I’m shocked and thrilled that Entrepreneur Magazine named Limor Fried, founder of Adafruit Industries, as their 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year. Limor runs a $ 4.5 million company with 25 employees and she produces some of the coolest electronic gadgets around.
It’s amazing that Adafruit Industries exists at all – after all, the average code jockey doesn’t want to handle solder or jumpers. However, the company has made it easy for electronics hobbyists to learn almost everything there is to know about some amazing microcontrollers, Arduino boards, and even skill badges for geeky Boy Scouts. They’ve taken off, selling $ 10 million in gear this year.
Limor started her company in her MIT dorm room by selling electronics kits to her friends, making about $ 10 on each kit. Soon she moved to New York and in October moved from a 2,000 square foot office to a sprawling 12,000 square foot loft in Soho.
Just a week after the move, Fried was bubbling with excitement, obvious even over the din of 500 packages being prepped for the daily UPS shipment. “It’s a new chapter in the business,” she exclaims. “I think we can quadruple our current size.” No mean feat, considering Adafruit has shipped more than half a million kits in the last seven years, and revenue has doubled every year for the past three. The warehouse-grade power supply at the new facility allows for simultaneous operation of large equipment like laser engravers and mills, which means much faster production; the additional space means more inventory can be stocked. Fried is also throwing her creative weight behind education initiatives, designing school curricula in electronic circuitry and robotics and creating stickers and badges, à la Girl Scouts, to get kids to brag about their skills in areas like welding and programming.You can read the article here but you’re actually better off heading over to the Adafruit website and picking up a few kits. Nothing beats the feeling of firing up a homebrew electronics project and I’m thrilled to see the maker community band together to elevate one of their own amazing hackers.
Question by Big Guy: What is the proper/legal ways to bring a Filipino lady to America? I have chatted with a Filipino lady and we both expressed an intrest to have her come to America. Where do I start? What does she need to do? If she needs funds for her part what is the best way? And, lastly can any of our respective embassies be of help?…thank you in advance. WoW for a fresh question, it has gotten alot of answers and for that I am grateful, the opinons?…not so grateful. I have been saving money for years I call it my dream travel jar. I put change and sometimes loose dollar bills in it. My friend’s and family have tossed some in over the years. I am now 40 and I am cashing it in. I will visit the Philippines, Japan, and about 2 weeks in London where i will hop the euro train and visit 5 other countries. I am going to do this at Christmas as travel to foreign countries seem to be less expensive and because of this I can tan in the Philippines. I am going because I have never been anywhere and I have made internet contacts with people all over my destinations, but the Filipino lady seems to be more hospitable and we have chatted the longest so i posed this question as curiousity. So, who I date, or even marry, is irrevelant to my posed question.

Seen here looking way too too pretty to be cooking meth at Wal-Mart the wrong way, 45-year old Elizabeth Elisha Halfmoon (cool name!) was arrested after spending 6-hours in a Tulsa, Oklahoma Wal-Mart trying to inconspicuously cook crystal meth. Thrifty!
“When I saw her she had just finished mixing sulfuric acid with starter fluid in a bottle,” says Officer David Shelby.
“When firefighters were on the scene she made statements to them that is what she was doing, she was attempting to obtain these chemicals and was in the process of trying to manufacture meth. However, she said she was not very good at it,” said Shelby.
Reportedly she told respondents to the scene she was “too broke” to buy the chemicals. An officer on the scene, who did not realize the bottle was active, picked up the bottle to discard it and was injured as the mix burned through the bottle and his gloves. He was medically treated at a local hospital for chemical burns and is reportedly okay.
