This is a video from a group of divers off Kona, Hawaii on a manta ray watching expedition when a bottlenose dolphin with a fishing line in its mouth and wrapped around a pectoral fin comes to ask for help. Thankfully, one of the divers is able to successfully remove the line. Did you know dolphins are capable of self-recognition? Because half the time I see myself in the mirror I think there’s a monster in my bathroom. I have to go take a nap now before I collapse at my desk. How I even made it this far is a true testament to my INCREDIBLE WORK ETHIC willingness to take drugs. Have some fun for me this weekend, but don’t do anything I wouldn’t do (I would do everything is the thing).
Hit the jump for the video, skip to 3:30 for the beginning of the rescue.

Like Toshiba’s mid-range Satellite U845T, Dell’s lower-end Inspiron R line is getting a touchscreen refresh after the launch of Windows 8. Engadget reports that 14-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch R models will be redesigned with a thinner body, along with optional 10-point touch displays; we’re still waiting to hear just when they’ll be available. The smaller two now apparently weigh in at under five pounds, compared to around 6 pounds for the earlier 15-inch one. As before, the laptops come with an Intel Core i3 processor that can be upgraded for a price, though the cheapest version uses a Celeron processor. The smaller two include 1366 x 768 displays, while the 17-inch model has one that’s 1600 x 900, and they start with 320GB HDDs. The…

The upgrade-minded buying 128GB, 256GB or 512GB versions of the SSD 840 Pro can get a free downloadable copy of Assassin’s Creed III for a “limited time” to take advantage of those 540MB/s peak read speeds while they skew the fate of the American Revolutionary War. The bundle comes not-so-coincidentally as Samsung has shipped and priced the wider SSD 840 line itself: while we knew the Pro line’s impact on our wallets, the regular models are now ready to sell at prices between $ 140 for a 120GB drive to $ 700 for a 500GB model. That’s a $ 50 to $ 190 savings over the Pro models, but we’ll leave it to you to decide whether faster write speeds, slightly more capacity and Connor’s secret fight with the Templars are worth the premium.

Is your cell phone dead and there’s nary an outlet in sight? It’s not an issue if you’re feeling zesty and also toting a BoostTurbine hand charger, which Eton just announced as part of its new portable charger lineup. The BoostTurbine2000 and 1000 model numbers denote the mAh of the batteries in each device, which can borrow volts from a conventional outlet, then transfer up to a full or half charge (respectively) to most smartphones. In a pinch, though, you can pop out the hand-crank and grab about 30 seconds of call time for each minute of sweat equity, according to the company (depending on your motivation, natch). The BoostTurbine2000 will set you back $ 59 while the 1000 model will run $ 49, and both are now available at Eton’s store. The company also outed a new line of regular plug-in portable chargers — it’s all in the PR after the break.

Buy From AMAZON US is.gd Customer Reviews: “It fits my Lenovo A1 7″ tablet fine. The clear plastic sticks to the tablet surfaces getting it in and out, but a LITTLE baby powder solves that. I do wish it had hanging holes in landscape position and also inserted from the side vs the top, but o-well. The product does not come in any packaging and you can tell the clear plastic has received “something like box burn” somewhere in shipping or storage. I’m okay with it, bc I just flipped the bad side to the back. The small case I used for my iphone and later for android saved my phone from getting wet after being in the pool for a minute or two. I trust this company, just wish they made more stuff. I’m going to pry one of mine open at the side seam and use 3M 5200 marine adhesive to install a headphone toggle/tail extension and then maybe coat over everything with aqua-seal too. That should make for a great MP3 player to stereo aux in my boat.” “Product works well – shipping is affordable – quality product (As all Sealline products are) – good customer service – would recommend to purchase – I purchased the larger size as I have an Amazon cover with light & a rubber skin and it would not fit in the smaller size. The opening was too narrow to accommodate the increased height. The larger size is a little roomy which is ok for me. I get to keep my Kindle dry (go nowhere with my KINDLE). I own 20 or so Sealline products and use them daily – They are good quality. I have had a lot of …

Apple’s iPhone 5 is here, but there are still plenty of people in line. A lot of you might be asking, “Why?” Who better to answer than the people in line themselves? I interviewed some of the first people in line at Toronto’s Eaton Centre flagship Apple retail store, including one guy who has been at the front of the line for three years and counting. Check out why they lined up, what they think of iOS 6, and some candid about iOS 6 Maps from even the most faithful.
Without sounding too much like a reality TV show, I can’t sleep. Observing the wasteland in front of the Apple Store Fifth Avenue helps a bit. Yet, the Apple line heroes have no problem to sleep at all. It’s probably because they have been sleeping outside for the past few days.
As I’m typing this words, it is 4am, the new midnight. People in front of the line are sleeping, those at the back didn’t bring a chair and are still standing, wide awake. Television vehicles make an incredibly annoying noise behind me and the hotdog smell from a food cart not so far away is not something you are looking for when you want to sleep.
“All of this for a phone?” keep asking the people on the sidewalk. After seeing someone walking and shouting “iPhone 5! iPhone 5!” with an iPhone 5 in his hand, I can definitely say that it is a tad too much for just a phone. Instead of showing his iPhone 5 around at 4am, he could have slept peacefully in his bed, or at least lent it to me — the bed of course.
And of course, it’s cold out there. For all those reasons, I can’t think straight right now. But be sure to watch the livestream of the iPhone 5 launch at 7am tomorrow. After that night, I don’t want you to miss it.
