Build 9364, a partner version that was originally compiled on March 15th, has been made available on file sharing sites and includes some of the new changes that Microsoft is building into its significant Windows 8 update. Leaked screenshots posted at Winforum show that the company is bringing smaller tile arrangements and even a larger desktop one to its Start Screen, along with greater control over the color personalization options, and a whole lot more.

As more of the story about the simultaneous cyber attack and real-world “Swatting” carried out against security researcher Brian Krebs comes to light, one of the significant details has the reported targeting of Microsoft employees for hacking. Allegedly, the hackers who targeted Krebs did so because he helped to reveal the method by which they have been compromising the accounts of “Microsoft employees who work on the Xbox Live gaming platform,” Krebs writes. The method apparently involves acquiring and then utilizing the employees’ social security numbers along with some social engineering to obtain (and apparently then sell) access to those accounts.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.8 update started rolling out in late January to existing devices, but it appears the software maker is working to fix an issue with Live Tiles in the updated OS. Microsoft first acknowledged the issue, where Live Tiles stop updating correctly, late last month, and the company now says it’s working on a fix. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore says the company has “identified a minor issue where some 7.8 tiles stop updating and we are working on a fix now.”
Vodafone in Germany recently revealed that Microsoft had halted the Windows Phone 7.8 update “until further notice.” Windows Phone 7.8 users have complained of increased battery drain and failing Live Tile updates after upgrading to the new OS. Designed as an update…

While some of us try to avoid mainstream media and the accompanying Things You Should Be Afraid Of Today reporting, sometimes we need a place to go for 24/7 coverage of a disabled cruise ship, and CNN is always there. Now it’s there on Android too, after launching live streaming of both CNN and HLN on iOS back in 2011 a new update for its Android phone app has brought the feature (and the classic “This is CNN” greeting by James Earl Jones) to the platform. You’ll still need to be a subscriber to a participating cable TV service to actually watch the feed, but getting your dose of Anderson Cooper on the go is as simple as inputting your account details, and then you’re set. Feature parity — who doesn’t love it? (Android tablet owners, Windows 8 users, Symbian…)

Tomorrow marks the debut of House of Cards, the latest original series from Netflix. All season one episodes will be available to watch instantly, so subscribers wil be theoretically be able to stream the entire thing in a single weekend. In fact, if you’re a Silver member of Xbox Live, that’s probably not a bad idea. For three days only, Microsoft has announced that it will be “unlocking” the Netflix app for non-paying gamers.

Clearly Netflix wants as many eyes as possible on its prized new show this weekend — the company has reportedly sunk $ 100 million into its…
