Oh spring, flowers blooming, bees buzzing, the smell of new e-readers in the air. According to The New York Times, the folks over at Barnes & Noble’s digital team are putting the finishing touches on a “fifth e-reading device,” to be released during the aforementioned season. Not a lot of details on that at the moment — the bookseller’s not spilling the beans. Given last year’s release schedule, timing-wise the device would fall closer in line with the company’s e-ink line of products, so perhaps the non-tablet Nook line still has a bit of fight left in it, after all.
Barnes & Noble readying ‘e-reading device’ for spring, doesn’t want to talk about it originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Jan 2012 01:48:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Have you been hoping to experience a Panasonic boom up close and personal, but found yourself in the wrong locale? The Japanese electronics giant wants to change all of that by expanding its Android lineup to Europe and North America, according to Nikkei. The company’s said to be in talks with a “major telecommunications firm” in Europe to bring several devices to the continent as early as this spring, and is aspiring to eventually make it to North America and other Asian countries. This lines up with last week’s rumors that it was seeking out a PR agency to help spread the news when the time’s right. Might we expect Panasonic to make a mobile splash at CES or MWC in a major way? It’s going to be exhibiting at both, so we’d say there’s a pretty good chance.
Panasonic plans to go forth with Android to all of Europe this spring, North America is a definite maybe originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 19:40:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

TECHNOLOGY: An Extra-Strength All-in-One: Imac Spring 2011 Review Pity the poor iMac. In an ecosystem that boasts iPad 2s, MacBook Airs and iPhone 4s, Apple’s all-in-one desktop stalwart looks like the old stand-by. It’s had a few design changes over the years, going from a plastic enclosure to aluminum and getting that glossy edge-to-edge glass display, but it’s never been quite as sexy as the other offerings in Apple’s product lines. Cupertino-built … Read more on All About Jazz

The heaviest of heavyweights in the all-in-one field has seen another update, another batch of new internals to liven up the aging (but still classy) chassis. Apple unveiled its latest iMac refresh last week, surprising nobody with a new selection of AMD Radeon HD graphics cards, quad-core Intel Sandy Bridge processors, and solid-state storage options, all designed to do one thing: go faster.
These latest iMacs are quite naturally the speediest yet, as you’d expect, but with the right configuration they can be properly quick. Faster internals plus Thunderbolt ports on the outside turn what’s supposed to be a family-friendly and eye-catching machine into an unassuming powerhouse that might just be quick enough for professional users. There’s a more important question, though: is this $ 1,999 system the right choice for you?
