Popular Twitter client TweetDeck has just released a new redesign. The update brings several highly requested personalization features, like the option to switch between two themes — a light background with dark text that looks more in line with the traditional Twitter interface, and TweetDeck’s iconic dark background with light text. Users can also customize their font size from the settings menu, which offers 13pt, 14pt, and 15pt options. The update is available now for the web app, Chrome, Mac, and Windows — just restart your client to see it take effect.
It was scarcely a day ago that we got a first peek at what could be the first BlackBerry 10 devices — and now we’re looking at what may be BlackBerry 10′s cornerstone app, a reworked BlackBerry Messenger. As long as N4BB‘s details prove legitimate, the centerpiece of the app will be its theming: owners can customize the chat bubbles and backdrops to fit their finnicky ways. Of course, this being an efficiency-obsessed RIM, the theming should also be integral to keeping power consumption to a minimum: the darker the colors, the less energy a BBM conversation demands from a future BlackBerry’s big OLED screen. We don’t know whether any changes will prove more than skin deep, although the switch to the QNX-based OS might prove enough at first. We’ll know everything soon enough should of a September release for the first phone be more than just a feverish dream.

We know that it ain’t always practical or desirable to put money down on a phone every time a new OS or interface comes out — so what is a gadget hound to do when they realize their hardware won’t be supported by Windows Phone 7 Series? Well, if you’re anything like these enterprising individuals you roll your own. Both Jaxbot and LeSScro, members of the XDA Developers forum, have skins in the works that mimic the new OS on WinMo devices with varying degrees of success. The work of the former is still pretty slow and buggy but it does offer some functionality — including info on live tiles and the ability to see upcoming appointments on your lock screen. The latter theme, on the other hand, sports time, date, and notifications on the lock screen, profile settings, transitional animations, a handful of hubs (including games, media, and Office), and an apps launcher.
