Robots can do almost anything – build cars, explore Mars, and run through the woods like a monster – but now they can sing and dance and even play songs after hearing their rhythm lines clapped out by their owners. Launching at TechCrunch Disrupt SF, Tovbot is one of the coolest robots you’ll see today.
Tovbot is the brain-child of Gil Weinberg, Ph.D. We interviewed Weinberg in Georgia a few months ago and he told us that he was ready to commercialize and present his robots at Disrupt. Today he launched a Kickstarter for his project and you can pledge $ 149 to get your own Shimi Tovbot to be shipped later this year.
The Tovbot is a small phone dock that uses your phone’s processor to move to the music. It contains multiple motors that help it wag its arms, head, and feet. The program Weinberg created also “senses” beat based on clapping and can find matching songs automatically. For example, you can clap out songs like Coldplay’s “Yellow” and it will find a matching tune.
Thanks to smartphone and cloud robotic controls, Tovbot is highly complex yet surprisingly affordable. The robot builds choreography on the fly and can even follow you around the room using your cellphone’s camera.
The Tovbot is a toy but it’s also the future of home robotics. The Epic is a CDMA device. the S is a GSM phone. Very different.

Angry Birds has been around for what seems like forever, topping over 1 billion downloads across all available platforms. But folks continue to come up with new and interesting ways for us to sling birds into poorly built structures with the sole purpose of needless destruction.
Samsung today officially joined that pack by offering Angry Birds on Samsung’s Smart TV, but pay no mind to the remote — the whole thing is controlled by gesture.
The idea is that you can aim birds by pulling back the way you would to use a slingshot. You can also activate the birds’ “talents” through gesture controls as well, making big black mamma jamma explode or sending yellow triangle bird into a b-line straight for the desired target.
Here’s Samsung’s official word on the matter:
Samsung Smart TV will become the first TV to offer the world’s most popular game and set a new standard in the industry by offering a game for Smart TVs controlled by hand gestures. Samsung will continue to develop various content that bring family members together in front of the TV, allowing consumers to enjoy new experiences via Samsung Smart TVs.

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time that Angry Birds has been available for play on a big screen. Roku’s second line of streamers offers motion-controlled Angry Birds madness, however you need the remote to get your game on there. In Samsung’s case, the app is already built in to the TV and all you need are your glorious, bird-flinging hands.

Every morning, my lovely girlfriend walks through Grand Central Station in New York City on her way to work, and every morning, she sees something odd. Such is the nature of living in the Big Apple.
This happened: she saw a man — a regular dude in slacks and a button-down — carrying his iPad in his butt.

Admittedly, there’s very little news value to this story, but I have to wonder, is this a “thing”? An iPad easily fits in a bag, and there are plenty of covers that include handles, allowing you to carry the tablet like a briefcase. But to a New York straphanger, perhaps this isn’t accessible enough. Perhaps the tablet needs to be as available as the phone in your pocket, and thus the butt tuck.
My main question, if we just assume that this is acceptable behavior, is whether or not the iPad is safe. How tight are this man’s slacks to allow for a securely stowed iPad? And moreover, is it not totally sweaty and disgusting when he whips it out?

Question by Francisco Lopez: Can the xbox 360 kinect thing attach to all XBOX 360s? Also, Is kinect only going to focus on E related game (family style games) or will there be first person shooters with kinect?

I believe as more games come out and kinect gets more refined there will be fps and other games, maybe even call of dutys
I won’t buy it when it comes out because I prefer a precise controller, and I would rather wait for improvement or at least for the price to drop……but thats just me

Question by ♥ Doggie♥ Mama: What’s better an xbox 360 with kinect or Playstation4 with the movement thing? I want excellent quality but also want to be able to play games and fitness without having to hold a controller like the Wii. I know PS4 is more expensive, but it’s ok… I just want the best. The one that reacts more quickly with your movements. The most I will do with either is fitness and karaoke and kids games, no war stuff, no violent stuff.
But PS4 is coming out though soon I think?
