Answer by Richard Banything you get as an on line “certificate” is mostly worthless such a topic would need a 4 year university engineering and higher study but then would be “cutting edge” technology in the fields

Hooray, a new recruit!

Remember when Cambridge University announced they were opening The Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, a think-tank designed to help prevent, among other things, a future robotic apocalypse? Well famed brainiac Stephen Hawking has just joined the force, and promises to destroy robots WITH HIS MIND ALONE. Although I bet he could take one in a staring contest too. MAYBE finish one off with his electric chair if it was already injured. “Did I get one?!” No Stephen, that was my foot.

Thanks to RonLTD, who agrees think tanks are cool and all, but what we really need are some TANK tanks.

Question by Mr. Zune: What do you guys think of Windows Phone 7? I’ve been checking out Windows Phone 7 videos on the internet and it actually looks like it’ll be pretty good? I like that it’s different and it doesn’t look like an iPhone copy-cat. What do you guys think of it and do you think that it’ll be a good contender to iOS and Android??

Best answer:

Answer by SuperharasHmm, I agree with you. Microsoft has really changed, from three years ago. Windows 7, Office 2010, Live essentials 2011, and now Windows Phone 7.

Microsoft has really started to work hard… I’m a Windows Phone developer, and I have to say I love the U/I and the experience. It’s different from anything you see in the market.

Question by Tyler: What do you think Apple will add to the iPod touch 3rd Generation? Do you think/know they’ll add those white/black backs the current iPhones have? Do you think they’ll add a camera, microphone?

Best answer:

Answer by TomNo, because those white/black backs are plastic, and cheaper, and I for one, along with quite a lot of others I’m sure would prefer the old, metal back. No, because if they added those things they’d be taking sales away from their iPhones. I’m guessing OLED screen and better speaker.

Question by chips2481: What do you think the next nintendo ds/gameboy will look like and feature? I had alot more fun with the gba then the ds. The dual screen is just too much to deal with. Do you think nintendo will go back to a one screen unit or stay with the dual for their next handheld?

Best answer:

Answer by Devine CaesarNah I think Video Glasses will be the next big thing for handheld, consoles. Pair of glasses with the projected screen that can be up to 50 ft, maybe with motion sensors so that you can look left and right and see more of the screen making it more immersive. as for a controller, the obvious choice would be a controller that just plugs in, but I wouldn’t mind seeing gloves come back, Nintendo has experience of this technology with the power glove for the SNES wouldn’t be a million miles away from a wii control type interface, two gloves that are motion senositive maybe wirelessly connected to the glasses.

Thing is also with the glasses, using advanced rendering techniques, ie a really high frame rate and an alternating shutter effect the glasses could make you see the game in 3D, either all of it or just key scenes.

Kimera Systems wants your smartphone to think for you

When Google took the wraps off Now we all got a pretty excited about the potential of the preemptive virtual assistant. Kimera Systems wants to build a similar system, but one that will make Mountain View’s tool look about as advanced as a Commodore 64. The founder of the company, Mounir Shita, envisions a network of connected devices that use so-called smart software agents to track your friends, suggest food at a restaurant and even find someone to paint your house. That explanation is a bit simplistic, but it gets to the heart of what the Artificial General Intelligence network is theoretically capable of. In this world (as you’ll see in the video after the break) you don’t check Yelp or text your friend to ask if they’re running late. Instead, your phone would recognize that you’d walked into a particular restaurant, analyze the menu and suggest a meal based on your tastes. Meanwhile, your friend has just reached the bus stop, but it’s running a little behind. Her phone knows she’s supposed to meet you so it sends an alert to let you know of the delay. With some spare time on your hands, your phone would suggest making a new social connection or walking to a nearby store to pick up that book sitting in your wishlist. It’s creepy, ambitious and perhaps a bit unsettling that we’d be letting our phones run our lives. Kimera is trying to raise money to build a plug-in for Android and an SDK to start testing its vision. You check out the promotional video after the break and, if you’re so inclined, pledge some cash to the cause at the source.

Question by princess: Do you think we will ever have to enforce the three laws of robotics? Do you think we will ever have to enforce the three laws of robotics like we enforce our laws for human beings???… and im in school so can u plz help me now…. :(

Best answer:

Answer by Free Stuff in 2012It is possible. They are nearly universal as rules for a non-sentient servant.

The truth is though that modern computers require a huge amount of programming to accomplish a similar effect. This leads to lag time and mistakes (similar to how the human brain works).

In the books/movies there was an invention, the “Positronic Brain”, that allowed robots to be given the Laws, then allowed to learn from their application while always keeping the Laws as the foundation (like morals).

ADD: For an example of how simple morals get bogged down with details, check out the Robocop movies for a better example of how the human (positronic like) brain can be given simple morals (like commandments) then confused by the details of the law.
