The TechCrunch/Gadget Weekly is back with several new faces. Jordan and Chris join John and I for our first TC/G webcast in several months. In this week’s episode we discuss our recent trip to RIM’s Waterloo’s HQ and also the perils of kids and interacting with seamless technology.
The latter topic hits close to home as John and I both have young children that are surrounded by the latest gadgets. As we discuss, I recently threw my son a science-themed birthday party (this mentos volcano was the highlight) and John just gave son an Android tab. But somewhere along the line, I state sooner than later, it’s beneficial to start introducing children to coding, and the inner workings and the Raspberry Pi is perfect for this task.
Jordan and Chris just got back from a few days at RIM’s Waterloo HQ where they got a close look at not only the BB 10 hardware but also the corporate culture. In short, they weren’t impressed with either. However, the rethought BlackBerry 10 touchscreen keyboard was a hit with Chris. However, can that alone save RIM and the BlackBerry?
This week the lads and I talk about the iPad Mini, our huge booth at CES, and my new favorite coffeemaker. We also discuss how much it’s going to cost us to interview 50 Cent at CES this year, which is pretty darn wild.
Want to hear this in audio form? I’ve extracted the audio from the video webcast and saved it to a downloadable MP3 podcast that you can subscribe to via RSS or iTunes. Hopefully you enjoy this version as well.
Every weekend, we run a quick round-up of the major watch news. Why? Because watches are pretty darn cool. The Dievas Vortex Professional watch gets reviewed. Durable titanium case and easy to read dial for people who just need a serious timepiece (for serious work and play).
Looking at a modern classic, a very unique classic. The Gerald Genta Gefica Bi-Retro Safari watch get’s remembered and recommended as a collectible.
Love that Japanese deconstructionist steampunk look? Dedegumo watches are custom made by hand and not too expensive.

How does Switzerland do US patriotism? With a watch of course. Like it or not, Perrelet has just released this spinning stars and stripes version of their Turbine watch called the Turbine XL America.
We don’t care that this watch is made for a Dutch soccer team – what we do care about is that this highly limited edition Netherlands-made Pellikaan Timing FC Utrecht timepiece is great looking with a sweet mix of classic, modern, and sport.
If you don’t have the right watch to wear while assembling your new computer rig – you know, to really get you in the mood- Click Watches’ DIP Switch or Turn Switch watch look like circuit board parts and are probably your best bet.
New from Porsche Design is the pretty neat looking P’6620 Chronograph Dashboard watch. We like the case the best, and with it you’ll have that comfy feeling knowing you are wearing something “designer.”
Sober and presentable is often how you want to go with a nice watch. No one is better at that than the British. English watch brand Bremont gets their new BC Solo watch reviewed here.
Since when to high-end timepieces and obscure comic strip character go together? They don’t, well save for this one-of-a-kind Reverso Zep watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre.
The best part of these “Sea-God” watches is that the guys who made them take them seriously. In reality they are an actually nice looking high-end joke. If you are a Rolex fan you’ll understand.
This week, azrienoch and SassiBoB are joined by samcaplat to talk about the WP7 Developer Contest, jailbreaking Omnia 7 Mango, the rooted Android 3.2 for Motorola XOOM, and the stable Perma-Temp Root for EVO 3D. Then SassiBoB features Navy Wars by BootsSiR, and we hear about a couple contests for the Big Android BBQ. And finally, azrienoch delivers his second message for HTC regarding their promise to unlock bootloaders for the EVO 3D and Sensation. We hope it stings a little. Did ViewSonic’s 10-inch tablets catch your eye? We’ve got good and bad news. The good news is that the G-Tablet (with a 1GHz processor and Android 2.2) is now on sale at Sears for $ 379.99 — even less than we were told. The bad news is that the Intel Atom N455-powered ViewPad 10 apparently is, too. We say apparently because Sears seems to have crossed some wires when putting the latter slate up on its site, most egregiously stating that that dual-booting device does both Windows 7 and Android 2.2 for the exact same $ 379.99. Last we heard, the ViewPad 10 — like the eerily similar Tega v2 — could only do Android 1.6 alongside Microsoft’s OS and would cost quite a bit more. Don’t rely on Sears to cut you a deal, folks.
