The next-generation iPhone will feature a thinner display that incorporates in-cell technology according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO VISIT MY BLOG sabrina0.blogspot.com In-cell technology would mean the iPhone’s touch sensors and LCD are combined into a single layer, doing away with the need to have a separate touchscreen layer. As well as enabling thinner screens, in-cell panels are also thought to be cheaper to produce than the current two-layer set-up. LCD screen-makers Sharp, LG Display, and Japan Display are mass producing the in-cell panels for the screen, according to the Journal. Apple’s use of in-cell technology is seen as part of its efforts to take on Samsung’s own push on OLED technology. OLED features in Samsung’s current flagship device, the Galaxy S III, which boasts a 4.8-inch screen and a design that shaves a few millimeters off the iPhone’s thickness. The thinner screen could come as part of a move by Apple to increase the screen size of the next iPhone the Journal reported in May that the forthcoming device will sport a 4-inch display. Previous generations of the iPhone, despite several design changes, have retained a 3.5-inch screen since the device’s debut in 2007. The next-generation iPhone is expected to launch in time for the Christmas holiday season, in or around October.

It’s in every science fiction book and movie since forever. Humans — the ordinary non-astronaut kind, like you and I — going up into space like it’s no big deal. And it’s generally believed that one day, eventually, space flight will become mainstream.
But alas, the day draws nigh. XCOR Aerospace and Space Expedition Corporation (SXC) have introduced the first aircraft that can endure frequent repeat trips to sub-orbital levels before tuckering out: the Lynx. Since the Lynx, a small fighter-esque plane that only holds two people, can make multiple trips a day back and forth to space, space flight becomes affordable enough for anyone to take the trip.
Well, not necessarily anyone. By “affordable,” I mean $ 95,000 for a ticket.
You’ll co-pilot the mission yourself, since there’s only space for two. The flight will last four or five minutes, over various spots on the planet, wherein the Lynx will flip upside down to give you a full view of our lovely rock.
According to Chief Test Pilot Rick Searfoss, who has traveled up into space with NASA three times as a Space Shuttle Commander, you’ll be able to see the curve of the earth and the thin blue line that separates our atmosphere from the black vacuum of space.
And though the Lynx doesn’t go past sub-orbital levels (around 100 kilometers), you’ll still feel entirely weightless.
The company has already sold over 175 tickets, and at $ 95,000 a pop, they’ll turn a profit immediately once they begin regular flights with private citizens. For now, we’re only in the testing phase, with commercial flights beginning no later than 2014.
Here’s an animation of the Lynx:
What’s better than one GoPro camera? Two, naturally. But what about 50?
Well, control over 50 GoPro Hero cameras is exactly what you’ll get with the freshly announced WiFi BacPac + WiFi Remote Combo Kit.
The combo will allow you to WiFi-enable both your HD Hero and HD Hero2 cameras, a la BacPac, which is an attachable casing. Then, the WiFi Remote will go with you wherever your creative and sport-tastic desires may lead, including underwater, to control up to 50 GoPro cameras at a time from up to 600 feet.
The BacPac will also allow you to control just as many cameras from your smartphone or tablet, as soon as the GoPro App is available. The company promises it’s “coming soon.” The app will then allow you to not only control the cameras, but live preview and play back videos and photos taken with your GoPro. You can also transfer content from the GoPro to your smartphone or tablet via WiFi, as well as livestream GoPro content direct to your phone.
To celebrate the launch, GoPro paired up with skater Ryan Sheckler who skated through Manhattan with 50 GoPros set up along his path. The result is this:
The Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Combo Kit is now available for $ 99.99 on GoPro.com and other various retailers in the U.S. and Europe.

Tomorrow afternoon (USA time) Venus will cross transit the sun and be visible from earth for several hours. Just make sure to use the old ‘poke a hole in a piece of cardboard’ trick and watch the shadow on the ground so you don’t go blind. Save that for masturbating.
Because Venus and the earth don’t orbit the sun on the exact same plane–Venus’ orbit is tipped 3.4 degrees relative to ours–most of the time it’s too high or too low…It only lines up in all 3 dimensions and traverses across the sun four times during an unusual 243 year cycle, with the transits coming in pairs separated by alternating periods of 121.5 and 105.5 years.
In the United States, the transit will begin at roughly 6:04 Eastern, 5:04 Central, 4:05 Mountain, and 3:06 Pacific Time. Over the course of several hours, Venus will appear as a small dot moving slowly against backdrop of the sun.
The next few transits will be in December 2117, December 2125, June 2247 and June 2255.
So yeah, if you want to see it get out there tomorrow afternoon, because there’s no way you’re gonna be alive in 105 years. “But what if they cryogenically freeze me and then bring me back to life?” Please, nobody’s gonna pay to have you frozen.
Thanks to bb, who made me promise to catch her a star in a net even though she knows my good star-catching net has a hole in it and I’ll have to sew the legs shut on the boxers I’m wearing and use those. Don’t look at my butt!
The crew of carriers that have been allowed to sell the iPhone has been growing steadily over the past few months, but today’s announcement from Cricket Communications wasn’t one most us expected to see any time soon.
They revealed earlier this morning that they will start selling the iPhone 4 and 4S sans contract starting on June 22, making them the first prepaid carrier in the country to do so.
If you’re not terribly familiar with Cricket or their plans, I can’t blame you — with roughly 7 million users, they’re the seventh largest wireless carrier in the United States behind the Big 4, MetroPCS, and U.S. Cellular. Nevertheless, they hope to rope budget-conscious customers in by offering the iPhones with their $ 55 Unlimited plan, though there’s a catch. Users will only be able to use 2.3GB of data bandwidth at full speed before getting throttled.
Of course, when it comes to buying prepaid, the hardware is much more expensive since there’s no hefty subsidy to take the sting out of the price tag. In this case, an 8GB iPhone 4 will set customers back $ 399, while the 16GB iPhone 4S can be had for $ 499. Sadly, there’s no sign of the 32GB model anywhere, so people who take the plunge may have to be more thoughtful about what they throw on their new device.
Nabbing the iPhone may seem like a coup especially for a carrier like Cricket, but rumors of the iPhone making its way to a prepaid provider have been brewing for years now. The prime suspect for a while was Sprint-owned Virgin Mobile, which makes sense considering the relationship we now know Apple and Sprint had at the time, but Cricket and parent company Leap Wireless seem to have been a more receptive target.

Creative Labs might want to get some white gloves, because we recognized its fingerprints on the HanZPad, a Chinese tablet platform which just landed at the FCC. Using its own ZiiLABS division’s ZMS-40 ICS optimized SoC (system on chip), the thinnish 7.95mm tab looks to have meaty specs with a quad-core ARM 1.5GHz processor, 1280 x 800 10-inch IPS display, 1GB RAM and microSD slot allowing up to 64GB of external storage. On top of Android 4.0 support, Creative will be developing its own OS for the device, which will be distributed through OEMs and its own channels. While currently tapped for the Chinese market, Creative’s weighty US presence may suggest it’ll eventually reach across the Pacific — if it does, let’s just hope it leaves the smudges behind.

We’ve see BBC iPlayer reach many devices over time, but it’s been conspicuously absent on Windows Phone. Nokia has stepped into give us some relief, and it’s now promising that a port of the TV catch-up service will be ready for your Lumia 800 “in weeks.” Good news no doubt, although Nokia’s encyclopedic knowledge of British TV streaming is also dashing hopes of using the Sky Go mobile app on Windows Phone anytime soon: the same Nokia rep doesn’t see Sky being ready for a “good few months” at the earliest. As such, you’ll have no problems keeping up with Doctor Who and Sherlock when they’re airing, but we wouldn’t count on watching live football matches for awhile.
