While feverishly revamping Flash with the all-new Next version — to keep HTML5 from killing it — Adobe is still plugging the current incarnation with smaller updates. To that end, Flash 11.3 just popped out of beta, which sees the company add a few notable goodies for the beleaguered plugin. On top of filling seven critical security holes, Adobe added a background updating feature for Mac OS X and signed the code in preparation for compatibility with Mountain Lion. That way it’ll align it with the upcoming Gatekeeper feature in the next OS X release, though you’ll have to dial its max security down one notch to get it. Lastly, sandboxing — already in Chrome — has been tacked on to Firefox as well, slowing hackers by isolating the plugin from critical system processes. All that fresh duct tape and polyfill should keep Flash rattling along — until Adobe can pull the gleaming Next platform out of the hangar. Meanwhile, click the source for the download links.

Look, I get it, Microsoft. You want to show people who you know how to have fun, that even Microsoft can smile once in a while. But seriously, stop with the dancing routines. Your target audience doesn’t dance. We, at best, sway with the music, but never dance.
As GeekWire points out, the latest nightmare happened earlier this week at the Norwegian Developers Conference where several dancers took the stage and performed to a song with such classy lines as “The words MICRO and SOFT don’t apply to my PENIS! (or vagina)” and “We are here to party and coding is our drug!” Laughter can be heard throughout the video as the attendees stand nearly motionless, likely in shock as if they were witnessing a train wreck in slow motion.
This comes the week after Usher took the stage during Microsoft’s E3 keynote for a nearly equally embarrassing show.
I was sitting in the audience for Usher’s 20120 E3 performance and can attest that most of the gaming industry found the show a bit misplaced; no one got out of their seat as Usher instructed several times. John Biggs said it best, though.

And of course there is this classic 2009 video of a Microsoft Store breaking out in an not-so-impromptu flash mob-ish dance. At the time I stated the store was trying too hard, but now, three years later, as Microsoft Stores have failed to be capture shoppers like the Apple Stores Redmond is clearly coping, I think they should be applauded for at least trying something.
Please, Microsoft, I beg you. A sweaty Steve Ballmer yelling and jumping around is better for your brand than employing a dance troupe to rally your remaining fans.
Sure, there have been some pretty creative variations on the standard paper business card, but if you’re looking to make a career in electronics engineering, card stock isn’t necessarily the best option for material. Such was the case for one student, who had the canny idea to make a card that demonstrates his printed circuit board know-how. He used a 555 timer that outputs a clock to the LEDs on the biz card, and placing a nine-volt battery on the terminals sets off the mini light show. See for yourself in the video below.

Huawei has been relatively quiet of late. Aside from Ascend D Quad smartphone we saw announced back at MWC, the company hasn’t been very present on U.S. shores. But with LTE hitting its stride, the company has today announced its very first 4G LTE handset: the Activa 4G.
MetroPCS will carry the prepaid device, which is a Android 2.3 Gingerbread-powered handset. It sports a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with a 5-megapixel rear camera (LED flash-enabled) and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat.
“We are honored to bring our first 4G LTE device to U.S. audiences with the support of MetroPCS’ powerful and expansive network,” said EVP of Huawei Device USA Michael Chuang. “MetroPCS is committed to providing customers with advanced, flexible and affordable smartphone options through its no-annual contract services, and is the ideal partner for Huawei’s entrance into a new era for smartphones and handsets.”
While Huawei is a bigger player in Asia, the company has yet to make waves here in the States in any tangible way. That said, MetroPCS seems like a good fit for this device as it won’t have as much competition from other flagship devices as it would on Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint.
The Huawei Activa 4G is available now in MetroPCS stores and online for $ 149, which is a little high for a mid-range device, but you can make it back up by being free from a contract.
