i am an information technology student interested in both robotics and hacking. which should i choose for a better career? shall i go for both?

Given that security issues won’t be going away any time soon, it would behoove you to learn how the black hats do it and how the white hats try to stop it.

it will take about 6 months of hard studying to get a nutshell of real hacking (not video game cheating or password stealing) and much much longer to be a master in one area (finding bugs, exploiting bugs, writing your own shellcode, etc)
usually you’ll have to learn a lot of IA32 assembly (machine code) to do anything useful in the hacking feild, or you can be a slacker and audit web applications (XSS, SQLi)
