Question by : Why does OLED TV costs too high?
If we look on the material used in OLEDs that looks very lightweight the technology may be cost high but I think it should be not that high.

Normally any product when introduced in the market costs very high.
This is because of a couple of reason none of which is about what you are pointing out.
The technology and other stuff is OK but hat is not it.
1. Patented technology needs payment and other initial capital to make the market stable.
2. To gain the initial production rate the amount is raised up to a limit
3. The research phase might be still on, so the product is more like a beta form in the initial phase. this is to avoid the massive distribution of the ‘somewhat uncompleted
product’- later stable versions are brought in to the market and the price gradually goes down.
. [eg: remember the iphone initial price and later deducted price]

It costs a lot because of all the work needed to design the TV, work out all the bugs, getting it up and running, making it better than what’s already available, patents, labor costs, materials, shipping costs, and a whole lot more. If there is any cost involved, we end up picking that up plus about 200% for profits for the companies that make, distribute, and then finally sell them. It all ends up costing a whole lot more than what’s really necessary.

I also had the same question about the price of OLED TV but coincidentally I saw a video about LG unveiling its OLED TV in the CES 2012 and from there I came to know that it will be expensive at the time of its release because it is made from very expensive technology and also it will not be familiar with the people at first, but once the technology becomes popular its price is also expected to soon come down at an affordable level.
